    CPVO Annual Report 2020

    The CPVO Annual report 2020 provides information on the CPVO priorities and achievements in the fields of R & D, international outreach, and the digital transformation of its core business activities, as well as on its finances and budget.

    The CPVO Annual report is illustrated with infographics, statistics and charts covering all aspects of the Community Plant Variety Rights (CPVRs) system. In 2020, the CPVO received 3 427 applications for Community plant variety right protection and granted 2 978 CPVRs.

    CPVO launches new online functionalities for applicants and title holders

    The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) launched an improved version of MyPVR, the online portal for users and clients of the CPVO.   

    MyPVR 4.0.0 includes a series of new functionalities, and the design, speed and user friendliness of the portal has been improved considerably:

    Once connected to the CPVO online system, users have access to the new dashboard and will be guided intuitively by the program; Applicants and holders or their procedural representatives wishing to withdraw their CPVO applications or surrender their Community

    Technical Announcement

    Announcement n◦ 5/2021 of the Community Plant Variety Office. Decision of the Administrative Council of the Community Plant Variety Office on test guidelines 25/03/2021 & 14/04/2021

    Technical examinations which are initiated or are to be approved by the Community Plant Variety Office must be performed in accordance with the test guidelines which have been adopted by the Administrative Council. Technical examinations started prior to the decision are not affected unless otherwise announced. The plant species concerned as well as the date of the decision are accordingly published in the Official Gazette of the Office.     COVID-19

    CPVO internal decision on End of Crisis as regards the management of the COVID-19 pandemic

    Given the relaxing of confinement measures and improvement of the sanitary situation in France, Mr Martin Ekvad, President of the CPVO, has decided to dissolve the internal crisis team set up to manage the pandemic and its consequences.

    Pursuant to the CPVO Business Continuity Plan, the end of crisis shall be declared once the event has been efficiently managed by the crisis management team or the incident is over.

    This decision refers to the way the CPVO deals internally with COVID-19 related matters, after the CPVO switched to a crisis management mode and set up a

    CPVO signs new Administrative Arrangement with Chinese counterparts

    The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), the Development Centre of Science and Technology, Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs of China (DCST, MARA), and the Science and Technology Development Centre, National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China (STDC, NFGA) signed a new Administrative Arrangement on 26 May 2021, after the previous Administrative Arrangement for the period 2018-2020 had expired.

    Publication of the CPVO centralised Register of Data Protection Records

    As from 15 April 2021, the CPVO counts on a publicly accessible centralised Register of Records of processing activities being carried out within the remit of the Office where personal data are processed. Making available the centralised Register of Records to the public at large is a legal obligation for European Union Institutions, Bodies, and agencies, based on Article 31(5) of Regulation (EU) 2018/1725 (“EUDPR”).

    CPVO’s DUS reports in the United States of America

    On 3 March 2021, the President of the CPVO met virtually with a delegation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

    During the meeting, it was recalled that the United States of America’s Plant Variety Protection Act was amended to include asexually reproduced plant varieties, which allows the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Office to accept applications for these genera.  With the ability to accept these new varieties, the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Office adopted the UPOV Test Guidelines for all asexually reproduced varieties.  As a result, DUS reports from the CPVO

    EU Plant Variety Rights in the United Kingdom

    According to the withdrawal agreement of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU), holders of a Community Plant Variety right which has been granted before the end of the transition period, 31 December 2020, have become holders of a plant variety right in the UK under UK law. The full list of plant varieties with EU registered rights that have been granted a corresponding UK right can be found on the UK Government website.  

    The plant variety rights granted by the CPVO as from 1 January 2021 do not cover the territory of the UK, including Northern Ireland. In
