    Announcement n◦ 1/2023 of the Community Plant Variety Office. Decision of the Administrative Council of the Community Plant Variety Office on test guidelines 30/12/2022

    Technical examinations which are initiated or are to be approved by the Community Plant Variety Office must be performed in accordance with the test guidelines which have been adopted by the Administrative Council. Technical examinations started prior to the decision are not affected unless otherwise announced. The plant species concerned as well as the date of the decision are accordingly published in the Official Gazette of the Office. The technical protocol can be consulted through the website of the Office, or upon request can be transmitted by the Office. Technical questionnaires

    The SME Fund 2023 will include the reimbursement of the application fees for the Community Plant Variety Office

    On 23rd January the European Commission and the European Union Intellectual Property Office launched the new 2023 EU SME Fund, which offers intellectual property vouchers for EU-based SMEs.

    The 2023 EU SME Fund is established by the European Commission and the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office. This fund provides vouchers for intellectual property protection to small and medium-sized enterprises within the EU.

    EU SMEs represent 99% of all businesses and provide around three-quarters of all EU jobs. To scale up and attract investment, SMEs need to

    New partnership between the CPVO and the University of Udine (Italy) to train intellectual property professionals in the field of new plant varieties

    In an agreement signed by CPVO President, Francesco Mattina, and the Rector of the University of Udine, Roberto Pinton, the CPVO and the University of Udine have agreed to join forces to train professionals specialized in the IP protection and development of new plant varieties.

    The University of Udine has developed an excellent reputation and know-how in the creation of new plant varieties and is the Italian university with the highest number of community plant variety rights (CPVRs) granted by the CPVO – i.e. 25 CPVRs. In addition, 23 of these are subject of licensing

    Plant Breeders’ Rights organisations to be present together in joint stand at IPM ESSEN 2023

    Together with its national partners Bundessortenamt, (Germany),  Naktuinbouw, (the Netherlands), GEVES, (France), and COBORU, (Poland), the Community Plant Variety Office will be present on a joint booth at IPM ESSEN 2023 (International Trade Fair for Plants, Technology, Floristry, and Garden Features), the world’s largest trade fair for the horticultural industry.

    IPM will be taking place from 24 to 27 January 2023 in Essen, Germany

    CPVO launches its new Communication Centre to ease exchange of documents with its users

    With the aim to ease communications with its users, the CPVO launched today its new Communication Centre online platform ("e-Comm") offering a more intuitive layout which allows for an enhanced monitoring of all new messages and documents related to users’ files.  

    Dealing with procedures requiring exchange of messages and documents can be quite demanding for all parties involved, and it needs to be supported by an effective communication platform. Until today, sending a message about your CPVRs to the CPVO was only possible by submitting a document in the section

    CPVO makes it easier to file legal proceedings

    The CPVO launches a new online tool called "e-Proceedings". 

    Until today, filing legal proceedings with the CPVO was only possible by email or by regular post. As of now, the new "e-Proceedings" feature within the CPVO User Area makes this a lot easier, while at the same time ensuring its legal reliability.  

    With "e-Proceedings" users will be able to file, in an intuitive way, an Objection, a Nullity petition, a Cancellation request, a Restitutio in Integrum request or an Appeal regarding one or more Community Plant Variety Rights (CPVRs). For each CPVR,

    CPVO’s vision towards 2026, the Strategic Plan of the Community Plant Variety Office for the period 2022-2026, has been published today.

    The Strategic Plan 2022-2026 provides an overall vision and outlines the priorities and focus areas of the CPVO in the years to come. The document is also a key element of our performance management framework, helping ensure that the CPVO achieves its objectives in an efficient, effective, and consistent manner.

    Communication

    CPVO starts new cooperation with the International Chamber of Commerce’s Italian Committee

    The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) and the Italian Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Italia) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which entered into force on 19 October 2022.

    This MoU has a duration of 3 years and establishes areas of cooperation in relevant thematic matters and activities of mutual interest, mainly related to the project ICC Agri-Food Hubs.

    The cooperation will primarily consist in joint advocacy and information campaigns aimed at raising awareness on relevant policies and practices in the field of plant variety
