    The official website of the INVITE project is now live at www.h2020-invite.eu

    INVITE stands for "Innovation in variety testing" and is a 5-year European Union funded project under the Horizon 2020 R&D programme.     In cooperation with the European IP Helpdesk, the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) organised two webinars explaining the process and requirements for technical examinations (DUS tests) of plant varieties applying for Community Plant Variety Rights. This webinar (Part II) is presented by Jens Wegner, CPVO's technical expert for ornamental and fruit species, who explains how the CPVO carries out technical examinations with a particular focus on vegetatively propagated species.

    Farm-Saved Seed Seminar, 4 March 2020 in Tartu, Estonia

    On 4 March 2020 a seminar focusing on Farm-Saved Seed will take place in Tartu, Estonia. The seminar is organised by the CPVO in cooperation with the Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs and the Estonian Agricultural Board.

    The main objective of the seminar is to enhance the understanding of farmers regarding the Farm-Saved Seed (FSS) system in Estonia and surrounding countries where breeders face challenges in collecting royalties on FSS from protected varieties. The seminar will focus on the situation in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden and Finland.

    Webinar - the name of a plant variety in the Community Plant Variety Right system (CPVR)

    In this webinar, recorded at the EUIPO Academy in May 2018, Bénédicte Legrand, Denomination Expert at the CPVO, explains the process in which names are given to newly protected plant varieties in the European Union.

    This webinar also outlines how this CPVR "naming" process fits with the rules and recommendations of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP).

    Webinar - Legal proceedings at the CPVO

    This webinar recorded at the EUIPO Academy in February 2019 and featuring Anne Gardener, CPVO's Board of Appeal Registrar, covers legal proceedings before the CPVO.

    Today is an important day and I am delighted to take the floor on behalf of the Community Plant Variety Office. Today is an important day because - on top of our mutual interest for plant breeding - we all have something new in common. Yes, we can say it officially now: we are all “invited”! Not only were we all “invited” to join this kick-off event in the city of Angers. We are also all “invited” because each one of us is directly involved in the INVITE project!

    CPVO Annual report 2018

    The 2018 Annual report provides an overview of the Community Plant Variety Office activities in 2018. It outlines all major achievements of the past year as well as the key challenges ahead.

    The Annual report is illustrated with infographics, statistics and charts covering all aspects of the Community Plant Variety Rights system. In 2018, the CPVO received 3 554 applications for Plant Variety Protection.
