    INVITE successful!

    The CPVO is proud to announce that on 11 December 2018 the Commission communicated its decision to grant funds in relation to the call SFS-29-2018 “Innovations in plant variety testing” of the Horizon 2020 program to the consortium INVITE[1] (INnovations in plant VarIety Testing in Europe). CPVO together with 26 partners across Europe from various sectors ranging from research, breeding, DUS examination [2] to performance testing for both conventional and organic farming, participate in INVITE. INVITE is coordinated by the French research organization INRA. The

    New data protection rules for EU institutions, agencies and bodies

    The way EU institutions, agencies and bodies, including the CPVO, deal with personal data has just changed. These changes are introduced by the new data protection Regulation for EU institutions, agencies and bodies (Regulation 2018/1725), applicable as of 11 December 2018.

    The new rules give you more control over your data. They are designed to ensure personal information is protected, no matter where it is sent, processed or stored.

    CPVO highlights EU plant variety protections at IP Key SEA conference for South East Asia officials

    Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) President Martin Ekvad briefed officials from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Viet Nam on the EU plant variety protection (PVP) system at the IP Key SEA ‘Conference on the Benefits of the International Union for Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV)’ on 8 November in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

    Martin Ekvad detailed the national PVP systems in the EU, the EU PVP system, the interface of PVP rights between the national and EU systems, as well as CPVO relationships with third countries. He explained that national PVP protection is

    Announcement n◦ 2/2018 of the Community Plant Variety Office. Decision of the Administrative Council of the Community Plant Variety Office on test guidelines 19/09/2018

    Technical examinations which are initiated or are to be approved by the Community Plant Variety Office must be performed in accordance with the test guidelines which have been adopted by the Administrative Council. Technical examinations started prior to the decision are not affected unless otherwise announced. The plant species concerned as well as the date of the decision are accordingly published in the Official Gazette of the Office.     Advanced International Training Programme

    Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) offers Advanced International Training Programmes on "Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources - in support of innovation".

    This programme is directed to persons that are policy-makers with a mandate to implement changes relevant for intellectual property and innovation in relation to genetic resources.     SEMINAR ON “THE BENEFITS OF PLANT VARIETY PROTECTION" IN SOFIA, BULGARIA

    On 20 September 2018, the Community Plant Variety Office held a seminar on “The benefits of Plant Variety Protection” in Sofia, Bulgaria, in collaboration with the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs and the Bulgarian Executive Agency for Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control.

    The main objective of the seminar was to promote investments in plant breeding and benefits in protecting new plant varieties at national or EU level. More than 130 participants from the private and the public sectors attended the event.

    The CPVO participates in the expansion of UPOV PRISMA PBR application tool

    Since its launch, it has been possible to file applications to the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) using the UPOV PRISMA tool for 5 pilot species. Following a successful collaboration between the CPVO and UPOV, this system has now been extensively developed and from now on, breeders can file an application for EU plant variety rights to the CPVO through the UPOV PRISMA tool for almost all species in the vegetable, ornamental and fruit sectors.

    This new possibility will significantly benefit breeders applying for plant variety protection

    Upcoming training of Chinese experts at the CPVO

    IP Key China together with the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), the Ministry of Agriculture of China (MOA) and the State Forestry Administration of China (SFA) is organising a training to four Chinese experts from the Development Center of Science and Technology, the Office of Protection of New Varieties of Plants and the Research Institute of Forestry from 25 to 29 of June.
