The 7th International Seminar on Plant Variety Rights & IP protection of innovation in agriculture is a two-day seminar focusing on the Intellectual Property system for the protection of plant varieties. This seminar will take place at the University of Alicante, Spain, on 12-13 May 2020.

This seminar receives international support and participation from experts from the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO, the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the International Union for the Protection of Plant Varieties (UPOV), the Spanish Office of Trademarks and Patents (SPTO), Naktuinbouw Variety Testing Office (Netherlands), the Spanish Office of Plant Varieties (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food), as well as the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Emergency Climate and Ecological Transition.

The main issues to be discussed during the seminar are the evolution and innovation in plant breeding as well as the relevance of the current IP protection systems. In addition, the several relevant European Union case laws will be analysed and discussed.
