    Farm-Saved Seed Seminar, 4 March 2020 in Tartu, Estonia

    On 4 March 2020 a seminar focusing on Farm-Saved Seed took place in Tartu, Estonia. The seminar was organised by the CPVO in cooperation with the Estonian Ministry of Rural Affairs and the Estonian Agricultural Board.

    The main objective of the seminar was to enhance the understanding of farmers regarding the Farm-Saved Seed (FSS) system in Estonia and surrounding countries where breeders face challenges in collecting royalties on FSS from protected varieties. The seminar focused on the situation in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden and Finland.

    Signature of Service Level Agreement between CPVO & ERA

    The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) & the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA) have agreed on a Service Level Agreement which will pave the way for enhanced collaboration between the two EU Agencies, notably on procurement matters.

    ERA's Executive Director, Josef Doppelbauer, & CPVO's President, Martin Ekvad, signed the Service Level Agreement on 7 January 2020 at the CPVO premises in Angers,

    Change in CPVO fees regulation as of 1st April 2020

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PLANT BREEDERS - We would like to inform all applicants that a decision was taken by the European Commission in 2019 to update the CPVO fees regulation. This decision has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 29 November 2019. 

    The most significant update concerns examination fees, which are linked to the costs the CPVO pays examination offices for technical examinations. These fees were adjusted to match the real costs of the technical examinations per group category. The new fees are applicable as of 1st

    Video interview with CPVO President, Martin Ekvad

    In this newly released video interview, CPVO President Martin Ekvad speaks about the major successes and challenges of the Community Plant Variety Office, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2020.

    Among the subjects covered, Martin Ekvad highlights the benefits of the European Union system for Plant Variety Protection (CPVR), explains CPVO's international outreach activities, and describes its involvement in the Horizon2020 INVITE R&D project. Finally, the interview touches upon the issues of New Breeding Techniques (NBTs) and Essentially Derived Varieties
