    SEMINAR ON “THE BENEFITS OF PLANT VARIETY PROTECTION" IN SOFIA, BULGARIA

    On 20 September 2018, the Community Plant Variety Office held a seminar on “The benefits of Plant Variety Protection” in Sofia, Bulgaria, in collaboration with the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs and the Bulgarian Executive Agency for Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control.

    The main objective of the seminar was to promote investments in plant breeding and benefits in protecting new plant varieties at national or EU level. More than 130 participants from the private and the public sectors attended the event.

    Seminar on the benefits of Plant Variety Protection

    On 20 September 2018 a seminar on “The benefits of Plant Variety Protection” will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria. The seminar is organised by the CPVO in collaboration with the Executive Agency for Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (the “Bulgarian Agency”). The main objective of the seminar is to promote investments in plant breeding and benefits in protecting new plant varieties at national or EU level. The seminar will focus on the situation in Bulgaria, Serbia and Czech Republic.

    Specialized seminar for Spanish judges 14 and 15 June 2018

    The University of Alicante (Department of Commercial and Procedural Law) in cooperation with the General Council of the Spanish Judicial Power, is organizing a 2 days specialized seminar for Spanish judges and magistrates on 14 & 15 June 2018, focussing on Intellectual Plant Variety Rights.

    Mr. Francesco Mattina, Vice-President of the CPVO, will present the European system for the legal protection of plant varieties on Thursday 14 June, session 3, from 6:30 to 7:00

    Marie Curie Post-Doc positions within EIPIN Innovation Society

    The CPVO is a partner Institution to the EIPIN-Innovation Society doctoral programme under the EU-funded Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska Curie Action (MSCA) ITN-EJD. The EIPIN-Innovation Society is run by a consortium of leading research and training centres making use of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions to support researchers at all stages of their careers, regardless of age and nationality.

    Fifteen PhD candidates are conducting research in all fields of innovation, including plant breeding. The EIPIN-Innovation Society is also supporting

    Joint Conference EPO - CPVO 29 November 2017

    The European Commission issued on 3 November 2016 a Notice on certain articles of Directive 98/44/EC, in which, inter alia, it expressed it’s views on the patentability of products (plants or animals) produced by essentially biological processes. The Commission concluded that the EU legislator’s intention when adopting the Directive was to exclude such products from patentability.
