The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) has launched the process of selling its building at 9 boulevard du Maréchal Foch, in the centre of Angers.

The sale is managed by the notarial firm Notantis via the platform Immeuble de bureaux 9 rue du Maréchal Foch | IMMO NOTAIRES ENCHÈRES (01 44 82 24 82).

It will take the form of a “vente à bougie”, a traditional French notarial auction method.

In this process, potential buyers can place bids in a public auction setting. The sale continues as long as a small candle — the “bougie” — remains lit. When the flame goes out without a new bid being placed, the property is awarded to the last bidder.

This time-honoured method, still used for certain real estate transactions, ensures transparency and fairness throughout the bidding process.

The CPVO itself remains entirely outside the transaction and invites interested parties to contact the notary directly for all details regarding the sale or offers.

This decision reflects CPVO’s ongoing commitment to efficiency and sustainability. After almost three decades on boulevard Foch, the Agency is preparing to relocate to a new, modern headquarters designed to meet evolving needs for collaboration, accessibility, and digital work.

The remaining CPVO-owned properties on the same boulevard — including the Hôtel Bordeaux Montrieux (No. 3) and two adjoining lots — are expected to be placed on the market in summer 2026.

As CPVO moves towards this new chapter, it does so with appreciation for the history it has built in the heart of Angers, and with confidence in a future shaped by innovation, sustainability, and service to Europe’s plant breeding community.
