The CPVO in partnership with the European IP helpdesk, organised a webinar focusing on Intellectual Property rights in the Agri-food sector on 28 September 2021. The webinar is presented by Ms Orsola Lamberti, Legal advisor at the CPVO, and provides a non-exhaustive list of examples of IP rights used in the Agri-food sector, such as Geographical Indications, Trademarks, Patents and Plant Variety Denominations.

The European Union (EU) Agri-food sector is a strategic market segment with the world’s highest standards of food security, safety and quality are ensured while adapting to the changing needs of European citizens and increasingly complex global challenges.

The goal of this webinar is to deepen the knowledge of intellectual property rights associated with the Agri-food sector exploring the conflicts and synergies among different types of intellectual property rights.

In particular, this webinar provides a comparative assessment among IP rights including Geographical Indications, Trademarks, Patents and Plant Variety Denominations. This webinar defines and compares these different types of IP rights, their object, scope, duration. You will be introduced to some useful databases (including e-Ambrosia, Variety Finder and eSearch Plus) for their comparison and analysis.
