Innovation in the field of plant breeding and the creation of new plant varieties contribute to increasing the availability of nutritious and affordable food for a growing population, while allowing a more sustainable use of natural resources such as water or land surface. Plant variety protection incentivizes innovation and  is an essential tool to foster R&D for the benefit of society.

The webinar organized in cooperation with the European IP Helpdesk will be focused on the European Union Plant Variety Protection system and its role in the context of the current policy frameworks such as the EU Green Deal, the EU Farm to Fork strategy, andthe UN Sustainable Development Goals. The speaker will describe the main features of the system.
