The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) has been actively involved in the INVITE project, a Horizon 2020-funded initiative aimed at improving plant variety testing across Europe.

Now approaching its conclusion, INVITE has focused on enhancing the efficiency of testing methods for DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability) and performance trials. The project's ultimate goal has been to provide better-adapted plant varieties that can thrive under increasingly variable environmental conditions and more sustainable farming practices.

The CPVO's role in INVITE has been essential in establishing mutual trust  between INVITE’s consortium and EU plant breeders, defining appropriate legal frameworks for data exploitation and supporting innovations in phenotyping, genotyping, and data management to optimize variety testing. As the project draws to a close, the CPVO and its partners have been preparing to share their findings, which are expected to improve the quality and efficiency of plant variety tests while addressing challenges like climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices.

In recognition of the project's significant outcomes, a final conference of the INVITE project is foreseeen, where the key findings and results will be presented to stakeholders, policymakers, and industry professionals. This event will provide a platform to discuss the future of plant variety testing in Europe and how the advancements made during the project will influence the industry.

Innovations towards sustainability in plant variety testing

Day 2 – 10 December 2024

Register now!

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to the final conference of the H2020 EU-funded project INVITE, which will be held on December 10, 2024, at the Herman Teirlinck Building in Brussels, Belgium. This event takes place in the context of our EU funded research projects on innovations in plant variety testing: INVITE and INNOVAR. The final conference of the these two projects will be organised in two days. The first day, mainly dedicated to present the results of the INNOVAR project will take place on the 28 November 2024 and the second day, mainly dedicated to present INVITE results will take place the 10 of December in Brussels.

The second day conference will showcase the key outcomes of the INVITE project, highlighting practical examples of its application across various crops from the two projects, with a focus on the potential impacts of these innovations. Additionally, the conference will explore how these findings can support the European Commission's proposed Regulation on plant reproductive material.

Please note that this registration is exclusively for the INVITE portion of the joint final conferences with the INNOVAR project. If you have already registered for the INNOVAR conference on November 28, 2024, please make sure to complete this separate registration for the INVITE event.

You can find information about the preliminary agenda here.

The working language of the conference will be English, and the event is free of charge.

We encourage you to register as soon as possible to secure your spot. Feel free to forward this invitation to any relevant colleagues who may be interested in attending.
