Decision of the Administrative Council of the Community Plant Variety Office on the suitability of variety denominations

The Administrative Council of the Office adopted on 24th March 2004 new guidelines and explanatory notes on the suitability of variety denominations. The major modifications in comparison to the previous version concern:

  1. the form of the guidelines, giving them more the character of rules, similar to Commission Regulation (EC) 930/2000 on the suitability of variety denominations for Common Catalogue species,
  2. the addition of a provision in order to avoid possible conflicts between denominations of protected varieties and the protection of geographical indications and designations of origin for agricultural products and foodstuffs pursuant to Council Regulation (EEC) No 2081/92
