Announcement N° 2/2004 of the Community Plant Variety Office

Apple announcement

The attention of applicants is drawn to the fact that as from 2004, Community plant variety rights technical examinations for fruit varieties will no longer be carried out in the United Kingdom. Any varieties currently under test by the British authorities will nonetheless finalise their testing there.  Future apple and pear applications will be tested either by GEVES in France or the Bundessortenamt in Germany.

Furthermore, as from 2004, the Community plant variety rights testing of new apple mutation varieties will be divided between GEVES and Bundessortenamt according to the mutation group to which they belong. The distribution will be as follows:

Bundessortenamt

GEVES (INRA)

Boskoop

Braeburn

Cox

Cripps Pink

Delcorf

Fuji

Elstar

Gala

Falstaff

Gold Delicious

Holsteiner Cox

Granny Smith

Jonagold

Melrose

Pinova

Red Delicious

Reine de Reinettes

The attention of applicants is drawn to the fact that only the Community Plant Variety Office determines where the candidate variety is examined. Any arrangements which are made directly with an examination office but without consent of the CPVO will therefore jeopardise later examination results.
