    Farewell message by CPVO President Martin Ekvad 2011-2021

    "After ten years as President of the Community Plant Variety Office, my second and last mandate expires on 31 August 2021. It has been a great honour to serve the European Union in this role and a real pleasure to manage the EU plant variety protection system during the past decade.

    Plant breeding has never been as important as it is today. It offers tremendous benefits to society in terms of food security, resilience and environmental sustainability. Plant variety rights entail a crucial incentive for breeders to create and innovate and I am happy that the EU plant variety

    Signature of new Service Level Agreement (SLA) between the EUIPO and the CPVO

    The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) signed a new Service Level Agreement (SLA) which entered into force on 21 July 2021.

    The EUIPO and the CPVO operate in the field of intellectual property (IP) rights with similar operational and budgetary structures, which are based on fees charged for services provided to the industry. The EUIPO manages the registration of trade marks and designs while the CPVO is in charge of plant variety rights. Both organisations are part of a network of 48 decentralised EU agencies working

    CPVO Annual Report 2020

    The CPVO Annual report 2020 provides information on the CPVO priorities and achievements in the fields of R & D, international outreach, and the digital transformation of its core business activities, as well as on its finances and budget.

    The CPVO Annual report is illustrated with infographics, statistics and charts covering all aspects of the Community Plant Variety Rights (CPVRs) system. In 2020, the CPVO received 3 427 applications for Community plant variety right protection and granted 2 978 CPVRs.
