Fees increase

Starting from July 1, 2023, due to several economic factors, it has become necessary to adjust the fees associated with our various services.

In the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis, combined with the recent peak in energy costs and the surge of inflation across Europe, the CPVO and our network of Examination Offices have encountered substantial cost increases, spanning across technical examinations, infrastructure, and labor costs.

The decision to adjust these fees has been judiciously considered to comply with the need for sustainable funding for the Agency.

"Guide to Retained EU Plant Variety Rights under UK Legislation: How to Confirm, Surrender or Transfer Rights"

Following the withdrawal agreement of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU), the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) has informed the CPVO with regard to titles currently in force in the United Kingdom in this way:

Varieties with EU Plant Variety Rights granted by the CPVO and effective on 31 December 2020 continue to be protected under UK legislation in the UK for their remaining lifespan and are referred to as Retained EU Plant Variety Rights.

SME Fund for community plant variety - How to apply

The SME Fund is a European Commission initiative implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and will run from 23 January 2023 to 8 December 2023. This fund provides vouchers for intellectual property protection to small and medium-sized enterprises within the EU.

This year, 4 vouchers have been published:

Voucher 1 – IP scan – get up to EUR 1 350 on expert advice for your IP strategy;

Voucher 2 – trade marks and designs – save EUR 1 000 to use for eligible fees;

Technical examinations which are initiated or are to be approved by the Community Plant Variety Office must be performed in accordance with the test guidelines which have been adopted by the Administrative Council. A new institutional collaboration agreement signed by the CPVO

The Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) signed yesterday a collaboration agreement aimed at promoting activities of mutual interest. The SME Fund 2023 will include the reimbursement of the application fees for the Community Plant Variety Office

On 23rd January the European Commission and the European Union Intellectual Property Office launched the new 2023 EU SME Fund , which offers intellectual property vouchers for EU-based SMEs.

New partnership between the CPVO and the University of Udine (Italy) to train intellectual property professionals in the field of new plant varieties

In an agreement signed by CPVO President, Francesco Mattina, and the Rector of the University of Udine , Roberto Pinton, the CPVO and the University of Udine have agreed to join forces to train professionals specialized in the IP protection and development of new plant varieties.

The University of Udine has developed an excellent reputation and know-how in the creation of new plant varieties and is the Italian university with the highest number of community plant variety rights (CPVRs) granted by the CPVO – i.e. 25 CPVRs.
